The aim of Skoleporten is to give schools and school owners (the local and county authorities) easy access to relevant and reliable information for use in local quality assessment activities, cf. section 13-10 of the Norwegian Education Act and the regulations relating to activity-based assessment. Skoleporten is a key part of the national quality assessment system.
Skoleporten provides data relating to the fields of learning dividends, learning environment, completion of upper secondary education, resources and school facts.
The four fields of learning dividends, learning environment, completion of upper secondary education and resources are called "assessment areas" as they contain relevant information for local assessment activities. The field "school facts" provides facts about Norwegian schools.
Skoleporten, initially launched in 2004, has now been revised and was re-launched on 13 December 2007.
The new Skoleporten portal is an integral part of www.utdanningsdirektoratet.no. Emphasis has been placed on providing many options when it comes to how to display data. For example, in the learning environment field it is possible to read data from Elevundersøkelsen (Pupil study) as line graphs, bar graphs or tables.
